SCC in UGANDA

SCC has been working in Uganda since 1985. In the last few years SCC’s support to Uganda has focused on; market based agricultural development, rural financial services, organizational development and the cross cutting objectives of Gender equality and HIV and AIDS mainstreaming.

These are some of our partners:

The Uganda Cooperative Alliance
This has been SCC’s largest partner in Uganda for the last twenty years.  UCA was formed as an apex for the cooperative movement in Uganda with a mandate of advocacy, spokesman and member educators.  The roles have since been broadened to include catalyst for change and mobiliser of resources. UCA has responded to the changing environment by restructuring itself from a hierarchical four tier structure that facilitates interfacing with rural members.

Nyakatonzi Farmers Union:
The union was formed in 1957 and is registered under the Cooperative Societies statute in 1991.  The union is owned by 62 member cooperative societies.  Through these structures the union has a network of over 10,000 farmers in three districts in south west Uganda.  The member societies enable easy mobilisation of farmers for information disseminations, distribution of agricultural inputs, collection of produce and delivery of other services.

Uganda Crane Creameries co-operative union:
UCCCU is a dairy cooperative union established in 2003 and operates in over ten Districts in western Uganda. It was born out of the Western Uganda Dairy Association (WUDA) established in 1997 to advocate for interests of dairy farmers in the region. UCCCU is an umbrella organization with a membership composed of 7 district unions performing the role of chief negotiator and mobiliser, with an aim of becoming the processor and marketer of milk and related products in the region.
