Tanzania Association of Foresters

Area of Work: -During the past twenty-five years TAF in an effort to contribute to improved standard of living among the target groups has implemented many projects and acquired an experience in conservation and afforestation activities through support to farmers, schools and other local institutions. This has been achieved with collaboration of many partners in project sites and with BSI whose cooperation ended in the year 2002. During this cooperation tree planting activities were established in Karatu- Arusha Region, Lwanjiro in Mbeya Region and Makambako in Iringa Region at the village level. A total of 4.5 million trees had been planted during a period of sixteen years with average mean field survival rate of 70 percent. Cooperation with Lwanjiro was curtailed in 1998 due to insensitive leadership.
Tanzania Association of Foresters is an association of 600 professional foresters from all over Tanzania, established in 1976. TAF aims at promoting sustainable forestry management practises in the country.

Agro forestry and Conservation of Environment Project
With the support of SCC TAF has embarked on an organizational transformation process, widening its focus and scope of action from tree planting to increased emphasis on agro forestry and conservation of environment.
