Civil Society Support Programme

 

A Civil Society Support Programme, being a sub component to the Sida financed PROANI programme in Niassa, one of the poorest provinces in Mozambique, is being carried out with Swedish Cooperative Centre (SCC) as the implementing organisation. The first phase of the programme period was 1 September 2003 – 31 December 2006 and currently plans are underway to launch the second phase.

 

The programme objective is to enable the poor in Niassa Province influence and improve their social and economic conditions through active participation in Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and through CSOs interaction/dialogue with the public and private sector.

 

Sida’s country strategy

The over-riding goal of Swedish development cooperation with Mocambique during the 2002-2006 strategy period has been to contribute to the reduction of poverty in the country.

 

The development cooperation areas are:

a) Democratisation and democratic development
b) Sustainable economic growth
c) Social and human development
d) Increased production, sustainable growth and reduced isolation in Niassa province
 
One of the underlying premises of Sidas’s country strategy, has been that the cooperation programme must support the Mozambican Government’s PARPA/PRSP.
